EA-6B Prowler
EA-6B Prowler Electronic Warfare Aircraft
This build was created for a private collector using the Monogram 1:48 scale kit.
The Grumman EA-6B Prowler was a specialized twin-engine, carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft operated by the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps from 1971 to 2019. Developed from the A-6 Intruder airframe, the Prowler was designed to conduct electronic attack missions, including jamming enemy radar systems, disrupting communications, and performing Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD).
Equipped with the ALQ-99 tactical jamming system and capable of deploying AGM-88 HARM missiles, the EA-6B played a critical role in protecting strike aircraft and degrading enemy air defense networks. Its four-person crew, consisting of one pilot and three electronic countermeasures officers, managed a complex suite of onboard electronic systems.
The aircraft saw extensive service in numerous conflicts, including the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and more recent operations in the Middle East, where it proved indispensable in maintaining air superiority and battlefield awareness.
This EA-6B model features the classic low-visibility color scheme common to United States Navy aircraft of the 1980s and early 1990s. Note the buff-colored radome at the nose, a characteristic detail of the period. The scheme also includes a white-painted underbelly, contrasting with the overall gray upper surfaces, unlike the uniform all-gray standard on modern naval aircraft.
Here we have applied a subtle black wash to the wings and fuselage of the model to accentuate panel lines and surface details. This weathering technique enhances depth and contrast, adding a greater sense of realism to the finished build.
This view provides a clear top three-quarter perspective of the finished model, highlighting the overall shape, surface detailing, and weathering effects across the wings and fuselage.
This view of the EA-6B shows the completed underbelly, including external fuel tanks and electronic jamming pods, highlighting the aircraft’s mission-specific electronic warfare configuration.
An overhead view of the EA-6B Prowler model highlights the aircraft’s wing planform, external stores, and overall symmetry, offering a clear look at its electronic warfare configuration and surface detailing.
A front three-quarter view looking slightly down on the EA-6B Prowler highlights the nose profile, wing-mounted jamming pods, and overall aircraft stance, emphasizing its distinctive electronic warfare configuration.
